I have 5 Polish Mexican cousins and my husband’s cousins are Polish Tejano, including our daughter. We are extremely proud of both cultures and we are very similar people.

I grew up with the polish jokes, but had no idea what you outlined, except for the era of post WW1. That’s when my family came over & worked in the mines in Virginia. Eventually settling on the east coast.

Growing up, I didn’t know many polish people - It’s was Irish & Italians.

I had a very constructive conversation with my daughter’s school district the other day because they are not teaching Eastern European history. The lady understood my complaint that our history is not like W. Europe and we contributed much to the abolition movement in this country. We fought the KKK, Jim Crow, and redlining. Many of my Hispanic Polish family members attend this school district and my daughters friends who also attend are Colombian-Polish. Their dad is from Poland and came here after the fall of communism. If we want to keep our culture alive, then we must actively participate in our communities and teach our history.
